PADDOCK COTTAGE

Near Bodmin Moor

Cornwall

Paddock Cottage, an early 19th century tin miner's cottage, lies in a valley within walking distance of Bodmin Moor. It is tucked away in tranquil surroundings in a traffic-free moorland hamlet, 9 miles from the coast.

The cottage has been beautifully and lovingly refurbished to a very high standard, with comfortable but tasteful furnishings. Our intention was to create a home, not just a holiday cottage. The cottage sleeps two comfortably, but has a sofa bed and a cot can be made available.

Accommodation

Sleeps four plus cot.
The entrance porch, with room for muddy boots or sandy flip-flops, leads into a lounge-dining room with a granite fireplace. There is a compact but fully equipped kitchen with microwave and conventional ovens. The staircase leads to a small landing with a bathroom and double bedroom. The cottage has many character features, including beamed ceilings, alcoves, a window seat and exposed slate walls. There is night storage heating as well as the use of the fireplace, for which logs are provided free of charge.

As the cottage is our holiday home, everything is provided for your comfort - from bedding and towels to a garlic press and corkscrew!  There is also use of a washing machine and tumble dryer in an adjacent utility room.

There is a paved patio garden with furniture and a barbeque area, surrounded by flower tubs and baskets. For our convenience, and yours, the housekeeper lives next door!

There is a call-box two minutes from the cottage, three pubs within a two-mile radius, and an excellent local taxi service should you wish to sample all the local ales!

Local area

Moorland

You can be on Bodmin Moor within minutes of leaving the cottage by foot. Close by is Minions, the highest village in Cornwall, where you will find the ancient stone circles of the Hurlers. Bodmin Moor is saturated in history and myth, and is a wonderful place to hike, walk or just meander at any time of year - an area that is still wild and unspoiled.

For sports enthusiasts, there is pony trekking, sailing and windsurfing at Siblyback Lake, fishing …. even golf! Really anything is possible.

Coastal

Just 10 miles away are the pretty seaside villages of Polperro and Looe. Forty minutes by car will take you to the wonderful village of Padstow, and the surfing beaches of the north Cornish coast. The coastal drive from Padstow to Newquay is spectacular.

General

There is so much to do and see in this part of the country. There are exotic gardens and stunning country houses, ancient monuments, coastal walks and beaches to match any on the continent. Daphne du Maurier fans will delight in Jamaica Inn (12 miles from the cottage) and the area around the river Fowey, where she lived.

We will provide all the local information we can to help make your holiday more enjoyable, and this will be available at the cottage. We will endeavour to collect as much information with regard to local festivals and other upcoming events to add to this on a regular basis.

We hope you take the opportunity to enjoy Paddock Cottage and the surrounding area. You will not be disappointed.
